Gluten-Free Yakisoba Sauce Recipe

bowl of gluten free yakisoba sauce

As a celiac it is difficult to find gluten-free Japanese products where I live. Therefore, I usually need to make my own. Now my family loves yakisoba, so I set about figuring out how to make a gluten-free yakisoba sauce. I like to make a large amount at once and keep it in the fridge to use as needed. In the fridge it can last up to 3 months, but it is never in my fridge that long!

Gluten-Free Japanese Yakisoba Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 cup gluten-free soy sauce
  • 1/8 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup mirin
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1/8 cup gluten-free worcestershire sauce
  • 1 to 2 Tablespoons ketchup (optional)
  • 1 to 2 Talbespoons gluten-free oyster sauce (optional)
Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients and whisk well
  2. Sauce can be stored in a tightly closed container in the fridge for up to 3 months.

gluten free soy sauce and oyster sauce

I use Kikkoman's gluten-free soy sauce and Kikkoman's gluten-free oyster flavoured sauce. Both are certified gluten-free. I can buy Kikkoman's gluten-free soy sauce at my local grocery stores. In my opinion, it is the closest to regular Japanese soy sauce.

As you can see in the photo above Kikkoman's gluten-free flavoured oyster sauce is certified gluten-free too, which is fantastic. If you would like to know more about what this 'certified gluten-free label' means here is a link to the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) website.

Now this product is hard to find in my area. I have to go to the big city of Calgary to get it. Usually, I buy it at Asian food stores such as E-mart or T & T. I sometimes do find it at regular grocery stores. The gluten-free one has the green label, if you are scanning the shelves for it. I was so excited to finally find a gluten-free oyster sauce, as I use it quite a bit in my Asian cooking.
