Mala Foods Booth at the Canmore Mountain Market

Mala Foods has some gluten-free products. The vendor is very friendly and easy to talk too. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to a celiacs food requirements. She told me that she prepares her gluten-free products in a separate gluten-free kitchen, separate from the gluten products.

I believe she is based in Edmonton. You will find her at various markets and pop-up.

Unfortunately, the BBQ Pork buns, Pork Shumai and Springrolls are not gluten-free.

Mala Foods Business Card

I found her on the last day of the 2026 Canmore Mountain Market. So, I will be looking forward to the 2027 market to try some more of her gluten-free foods. Above is her business card.

The Canmore Mountain Market is usually open from late May to the beginning of October.

In 2026 they were open May 21 to October 1, every Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm. Located at Elevation Place (700 Railway Ave, Canmore Alberta).

Mala Foods Gluten free sticky rice and mochi donut

I tried Mala Foods, gluten-free Sticky Rice and a gluten-free Raspberry Mochi Donut.

At the booth the condiments are all gluten-free, but I didn't feel comfortable using them, as they are used by customers on gluten products too, and I was worried about any possible cross-contamination. So, I was very happy there were gluten-free sriracha sachets!

I loved the sticky rice and the mochi donut, but heads up, as always with gluten-free products, they are pricey. I paid $27.30 Canadian for these two items.

She also has shrimp dumplings that are gluten-free, but they were sold out.

Mala Foods gluten free sticky rice

Above you can see the inside of the gluten-free sticky rice. It was delicious.

I really appreciate when I can find savoury gluten-free foods. Often you can find sweet ones, but not so many savoury options. I love savoury.

So very tasty. Great umami flavour. The sticky rice had bits of mushroom and pork and was well seasoned.

Mala Foods gluten free mochi donut

Isn't the gluten-free mochi donut so pretty! It was very delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness. A lovely chewy and the raspberry flavour was so good.

Mala Foods mochi donut ingredients and instructions

Above are the ingredients for the Gluten-free Mochi Doughnuts, and the instructions that the vendor gives out.

I couldn't wait, and tried my doughnut as is. It was a little chewier than if heated, but both myself (the celiac) and other non-celiacs really enjoyed it.

I'm looking forward to trying other flavours. I'm really intrigued by the mochi pizza.
